Rights of Children
The word ‘right’ indicates a moral or legal claim to have something. The rights particularly belonging to children are known as the rights of the children. The Geneva convention of the United Nations identified some basic rights for the children. According to this convention the children should have the right of protection from all kinds of threats, the right to live and survive, to education, to good health. Besides, they have rights to healthy physical and mental development, and not to be forced into labour. But most of our children do not enjoy these rights. There are some reasons behind this. The main reason is poverty. Bangladesh is a poor country. Here many people live below the poverty line. So the poor children are compelled to work at a very tender age. As a result they do not enjoy the legal rights. Besides, most of the children live in the slums in a very unhygienic environment. Sometimes they are forced to labour. Some dishonest people exploit the cheap labour of the children. Illiteracy of the people is another reason. The illiterate people are ignorant about these rights. So the children of these families cannot enjoy these rights. Our children are the future of our nation. So, we must ensure children’s rights. For this, raising awareness about the rights of children and implementation of laws against child repression is essential. Above all, poverty alleviation is a must for ensuring rights of children.

 Dowry
In our country, there are many kinds of unpleasant customs that are against a successful and developed nation. The most hateful system existed in our country is the dowry system. In this system the spouse has to give a vast amount of gifts to his/her husband/wife as dowry. Poverty is the main cause of dowry. Negative attitude towards women, dependence of women, attitude for establishment, impact of social corruption are also responsible for this social vice. We find that wives are often tortured not being capable of giving money or wealth to the husbands. We often read in newspapers that newly married girls are tortured in all possible ways. The impact of this system is more harmful in the remote villages of Bangladesh which are totally deprived of the touch of modernization. I think dowry system is very disgraceful. However, to eliminate this social evil, one cannot remain satisfied with mere laws or enactment of some rules. We have to change our outlook and orientation towards dowry system. Narrow mentality of the greedy people should be changed .Social awareness should be increased. Law should be applied for ensuring women rights. Above all, campaign against dowry is a must. And only then the country will see the face of light.
