English Monophthongs

English Monophthongs

Monophthong: A Monophthong is a simple or pure vowel which is produced with some obstacle in the vocal tract. The English language has twelve Monophthongs.

     1.  /i:/(ঈঈঈ)   as in the words sheep, seen , leap, bean , etc.
     2.  /l/ (ইহ)   as in the words lip, sin, ship, bin , many sick, sing etc.
     3.  /e/(এ)     as in the words men, pen, ten, sense, send etc.
     4.   /æ/(এ্যা)  as in the words man , pan , tan , can , catch etc.
     5.   /^/(আহ)   as in the words cut , but, hut, fun, nut, shut etc.
     6.   /a:/(আআআ) as in the words cart, bard, bud , heart , hard, last.
     7.   /D/(ওহ) as in the words pot  ,long, shot, dog, fog, gob, mock etc.
     8.   / ): /(ওওও) as in the words port, short, cord, lord, saw, sword etc.
     9.    / ә /(ওহ)   as in the words ago, today, perhaps, about, above etc.
     10. / 3:/  (ওওও)(দুদাতের কামড়ে) girl, shirt, bird, turn, lurk, turtle ,germ.
     11. /  u /(উহ) book, cook, look, took, put, hook, hood, July, motion.
     12.  / u:/ (উউউ)Cool, tool, fool, lose, boost, booze, boot, bloom, too.
